Winkworth Arboretum autumn leaves

Last week I took a trip to Winkworth Arboretum in Surrey, with
Hiking Nation
to see the autumn leaves. For me this time of year is always difficult to deal with, as the nights draw in and the cold starts to creep into your very bones. But at least the leaves give us a good show for a few weeks before it gets really grim.

It rained hard that morning, but the weather cleared just as we arrived.

This Japanese maple grabbed my attention almost immediately.

Many of the trees are still green; I think I need to go back again in a few weeks.

Some trees can't decide whether they're still green or not. As if they're fighting the onset of winter as much as I am.

Regardless, it's certainly prettier than the East End of London out here.

Just outside the Arboretum, a horse came to greet us.

Surrey is a pretty place. This was taken on the hike back to the rail station. I'm sure I'll be back.
